Happiness is….50 degree weather in January. Happiness is….taking a walk in the sunshine. Happiness is…watching the geese take to the ice just as much as they did to the water before. Happiness is…watching them walk it down the frozen pond.

For the love of shells!

Happiness is…knowing that a girl in her teens, loves the seaside. And that shells make her happy. Happiness is…a sudden vague idea, on how to dress up some shells for her room. Happiness is…having all the materials requisite to the vision. Penultimate happiness is….brush strokes on canvas, white on blue, over and over, until it feels just right. Happiness is…arranging the shells in a way that you think creates interest. Happiness is….liking it very much yourself. Happiness is…the anticipation of presenting it to her, as the final reward.

Happiness is…the realisation that there is no black and white with art, but just about every shade in between. Happiness is….feeling like an artist even when you don’t reckon yourself as one.

Happiness is…seeing nature’s paint splotch. Almost like dipping a brush into some orange paint and letting it fly loose.

The age of a tree!

Happiness is…watching the wonder that are the age rings on a fallen tree. Happiness is…knowing that they are called annual circles. That the spaces have names too. And that the lighter color is called springwood and the dark circles summerwood. Happiness is being able to conduct my own science lesson with my kids!

Happiness is….watching the first chilli of the season sprout from your chilli plant. Happiness is knowing that the seed that started it all, came from your very own kitchen spice jar!

Sunflower – back to basics!

Happiness is….coming full circle. From soil to seed to sunflower and back, and knowing that you can start all over again, from the bounty that is your own harvest. Happiness is feeling speechless over every intricate detail of the flower within, every pod, every petal. Happiness is learning some technical detail and why they make so much of sense, that petals are ray florets, and the pod…disc florets.

Happiness……utter, complete, exquisite happiness is….watching your first bud of sunflower appear, tightly coiled, at first, but yellow and full of promise. And t he very next morning, to have it spread out its tips to meet the sun. Happiness is….remembering it back to its seed, and being witness to every inch of growth along its way. Happiness is…looking out the window, every now and then, to rejoice in the fact that it has finally appeared.

Happiness is….a morning filled with painting little glass stones with my boys. Happiness is…each one of us doing our own little creation, and then enjoying the whole pile together. Happiness is….finding a place for it in the home.
